SATURDAY, MAY 1 AT ORANGE COUNTY FAIR SPEEDWAY
$4,000 to Win 30-Lap Joey Falanga Memorial Modified Feature Race!
Saturday evening, May 1 will find the United Rentals DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds racing for a $4,000-to-win 30-lap feature in their second point chase race of the 2021 season. Presented by M. Falanga Trucking, the Joey Falanga Memorial Big Block Derby has several additional twists to add to the evening’s racing excitement. The Falangas are longtime members of the Orange County racing family. The evening’s activities honor Joey, who lost his life in a highway accident.
The field of Big-Block Modifieds will be divided into groups for timed hot laps, with the overall fastest “Hot Lap Hero” earning a $250 bonus, presented by Frank Stevens & Sons Roofing. More importantly, our hero will then draw a number---1 to 5---to determine the heat race starting invert for each group.
For certain, every Big-Block Modified driver will be primed to lock into the 30-lap feature, not just for the $4,000 winner’s share of the purse, but also the valuable points towards the overall elimination format Orange County Fair Speedway Modified point championship. As the winner on April 3, opening night, Tommy Meier is the only driver guaranteed in the “Top-8” for the start of the elimination that determines the “Final-4” who will battle for Orange County Championship and the grand prize of $25,000.
Also on the program will be the Arkel Motors Sportsman battling for starting spots in their 20-lap feature race as well as the NAPA North East Parts Group Street Stocks racing in a 15-lap main. Northeast Racing Happy Hour with Predmore & Murns adding $250 bonus to the Street Stock winner & $100. to the Street Stock Hard Charger.
For some added spice, the Wicked Truck Worx Back-to-Back Bonus will be in effect. This award goes to any drivers who score consecutive feature victories. Should Tommy Meier repeat his April 3 victory, he’ll earn a $500 bonus. In the Sportsman ranks, $200 will go to a consecutive win by the April 24 victor. And if Mike Vigiletti can repeat his April 17 Street Stock win, he’ll take home an extra $100.
It’s all set for Saturday, May 1. The Pit Gate opens at 3:00 pm, Drive-In and Stands at 4:00 pm. Cars will be on the track at 6:00 pm, with the evening’s first heat race scheduled for 7:00 pm.
Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, the stands will be open but with limited seating. Fans may also choose to enjoy the races from the unique Orange County Drive-In section. General admission either for the stands or the Drive-In is $20 adult, $16 seniors, and free for children 12 and under. As a convenience for fans, guaranteed Drive-In parking spaces in Rows D, E, and F of the Drive-In may be reserved for $15. Unsold spaces in these rows will be available at the gate on race day. Fans may purchase tickets by calling the Speedway Office at 845-342-2573. Prepaid 2020 Season Tickets will be honored.
OCFS will follow and enforce CDC and New York State COVID-19 protocols. Masks are required to use any of the fairgrounds facilities and to move about the grounds. Everyone is asked to maintain safe distancing. In the Drive-In, announcements and race calls can be heard over FM 107.7.
Fans unable to attend in person may order live multi-camera streaming of the races on the OCFS website www.orangecountyfairspeedway.net.
For competitors: Transponders and one-way radios are mandatory. Fire suppression equipment is required for all open wheel divisions (Big-Block Modified, Small-Block Modified, Sportsman, and Rookie Sportsman) and strongly recommended for Street Stocks. Street Stocks must have fire extinguisher. Pit passes are $25 for members, $35 non-members.
