5/22/21 - Perrego Scores Second Feature Win

The H.O Penn Cat 358 Small Block Modified 30 lap feature event was set up after Craig Mitchell, Rich Eurich, and Kevin Root took home the heat race wins. The event  kicked off with Danny Morgiewicz and Pat Reiser bringing the field to the green flag. Almost immediately as the green waved, the yellow followed suit for an issue with the Mike Sparta Trucking #28 of Jimmy Spellmon. It would take another complete restart to get going and it was Pat Reiser who grabbed the advantage and took the lead. Reiser got out front and left two young guns battling as Danny Morgiewicz and Charles Loiodice would mix it up with Loiodice getting the edge and taking over second position. As the young guns sat two and three, it was the ageless veteran Richie Eurich on the move. Eurich, one of the pioneers for dirt track racing, would get around the #15m of Morgiewicz for third and then begin to catch the #5L of Loiodice.

Up front it was still Reiser leading the way with Loiodice and Eurich in tow, but it was all eyes on the Halmar International #69 of Tyler Boniface. “The Highside Hustler”, living up to his name, was hooked up on the outside and began passing cars left and right. By lap nine Boniface who started 12th was within the top five. Out front though, was Pat Reiser still leading the way. The caution lights would be displayed on lap 11 for two separate issues on the backstretch with Chris Stevens and Rich Ricci III.

On the restart it was Reiser and Loiodice out front. Reiser stayed in the lead, but it was Tyler Boniface who would take the lead away from Reiser before a caution would come out for Ryan MaCartney and Tommy Meier in trouble in turn three. Two more restarts would have Boniface and Reiser on the front row with Boniface maintaining his lead. However behind the duo was Anthony Perrego making his way towards the front. Perrego would make his way into third around Loiodice and positioning himself to catch Reiser. By lap 18 Perrego would make his way into second and work his way around Reiser. Boniface, who was enjoying the charge out front would begin to catch lapped traffic. The traffic would allow Perrego to gain on Boniface and set up an ultimate battle. The duo would bring it right down to the wire, with Perrego making a last-ditch effort and getting on by Boniface and collecting the win.

The 20 lap Arkel Motors Sportsman feature event started off with a veteran of the sport, Mel Schrufer, and up-and-comer Cody Higbie on the front row. Cautions would damper the starts of the event but after the field got going it was Mel Schrufer out front with Higbie in tow. The field began to spread out, with Schrufer still in the lead, but it was Brian Krummel and Jared LaBagh grabbing the attention. Krummel and LaBagh took to the high side of the speedway and one by one started advancing towards the front. Bobby “Flash” Flood, who was within the top five was perched in third with the intention of making his way on by Higbie who was still in second. Krummel up on the top side, would get the run on Ryan Neiger and Bobby Flood within a few laps and find himself right behind Higbie. By lap eight, “BK Speed” would get on by both Higbie and race leader Mel Schrufer and take over the pilots seat for the event. One lap later a caution would be displayed for the #J73 of Joe Conklin with issues on the backstretch.

On the restart it was Krummel out front with Schrufer in tow. However, the fast approaching LaBagh would get a phenomenal run on the restart and get on by Schrufer and take over second. Krummel out front, was being hard charger by LaBagh’s Comfort Express #38. Bobby Flood also was able to make his way around Schrufer and Higbie and become the owner to the third position. Cody Higbie, who didn’t have the restart he’d like to have, would battle it out with Schrufer and make his way into fourth.

Laps would begin to click away, and LaBagh would give it everything he could to get on by Krummel. A lap 18 caution for issues involving last week's winner and points leader Jeff Hulseapple would restack the field and put Krummel and LaBagh side by side. As the green dropped for this restart, Krummel and LaBagh would run almost dead even coming out of two and down the backstretch. The drag race between the two would leave fans on the edge of their seat. Krummel would manage to keep LaBagh at bay, but the restart would see a shake up within the top five as Schrufer would get around Higbie and “The Monster” Clinton Mills would work his way into the top five after starting 23rd in the event. Krummel would hold onto his lead all the way to the double checkered flags and a top of the podium finish.

The 15 lap Precision Hydraulic & Oil Rookie Sportsman feature had Alan Cote and Joey Mennite slated to bring the field to the start. Cote had suffered mechanical issues earlier in the night ending his evening so Nick Giardini and Mennite would be the new front row at the green. On the initial start, Thor Holmgren would be in trouble in turn two bringing out the first caution of the event. On the restart, Giardini would have the lead leaving Joey Mennite and Brett Weslowski to duel over second place. Mike Giuliano, Kasey Hufcut, and Bob Jashembowski would also be in the battle for a spot in the top five. Jashembowski, who started eighth, would get the advantage over both Hufcut and Giuliano before making his way into the mix with the already battling Mennite and Weslowski.

As former Street Stock standout Nicki Giardini would be out front, Bob Jashembowski would be making strides to dethrone Giardini of the top spot. Jashembowski after catching Mennite and Weslowski, executed a three wide pass to take over second place right before a caution transpired for the #72 of Kasey Hufcut. The restart would have Giardini and Jashembowski in front, and after the green waved, Jashembowski would take over the top spot. Mike Giuliano would also get on by Giardini and Brett Weslowski would follow suit. As Weslowski advanced, so would feature winner this season Dylan Madsen. Weslowski and Madsen both would get around the #51 of Giuliano and the pair would swap second position back and forth before a yellow flag waved for past feature winner Isabella VanOrden.

Jashembowski and Weslowski were the front row going into the restart, but a caution displayed for an entanglement of drivers in turn one. Once cleared, the next restart saw Jashembowski and Weslowski all over each other with Dylan Madsen right in tow. Jashembowski and Weslowski would come together in turn three bringing out the caution. This incident couldn't have put Madsen in a better position. The two leaders were out of the picture and Madsen would become the pilot. Madsen would get the green on the restart and go unchallenged for the win becoming the first two time winner in the Rookie Sportsman division.
